Okay, brilliant LM-Netters: You did such an awesome job with the history picture books, here's one of our other topics: fantasy. We are looking for books with text and wordless books but, again, for older kids (9 and up). Here's my initial list. I will post a HIT in a few days. Thanks so much! The Red Book by Lehman A book without words in which friends who have never met meet. Dinosaur Dream by Nolan After reading about dinosaurs and then falling asleep, Wilbur sees a baby apatosaurus outside his bedroom and travels backwards through time to return it to its own time period. June 29, 1999 by Wiesner While her third-grade classmates are sprouting seeds in paper cups, Becky has a more ambitious, innovative science project in mind. Sector 7 by Wiesner While on a school trip to the Empire State Building, a boy is taken by a friendly cloud to visit Sector 7, where he discovers how clouds are shaped and channeled throughout the country. Tuesday by Wiesner Frogs rise on their lily pads, float through the air, and explore the nearby houses while their inhabitants sleep. Where the wild things are by Sendak Max sails to the land of the wild things, where he becomes their king. In the night kitchen by Sendak A little boy's dream-fantasy in which he helps three fat bakers get milk for their cake batter. Roxaboxen by McLerran A hill covered with rocks and wooden boxes becomes an imaginary town for Marian, her sisters, and their friends. Time Flies by Rohman A wordless tale in which a bird flying around the dinosaur exhibit in a museum has an unsettling experience when it finds itself back in the time of living dinosaurs. If by Perry Illustrations present such imaginative possibilities as worms with wheels, caterpillar toothpaste, and whales in outer space. Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm by Nolen A child ventures out in the middle of the night to see how Harvey Potter grows his wonderful balloons. Wolves in the walls by Gaiman Lucy is sure there are wolves living in the walls of her house, although others in her family disagree, and when the wolves come out, the adventure begins. Just a dream by Van Allsburg When he has a dream about a future Earth devastated by pollution, Walter begins to understand the importance of taking care of the environment. Weslandia by Fleischman Wesley's garden produces a crop of huge, strange plants which provide him with clothing, shelter, food, and drink, thus helping him create his own civilization and changing his life. The Stranger by Van Allsburg The enigmatic origins of the stranger Farmer Bailey hits with his truck and brings home to recuperate seem to have a mysterious relation to the changing season.
