Sorry for any cross-posting. I found this in today's NEA news:Federal Grant Allows Elementary Libraries In Tennessee District To Stay Open In The Evenings. The Shelbyville (TN)Times-Gazette (12/16, Carney) reports that thanks to a $422,000 "grant from the US Department of Education...elementary school libraries in Bedford County" will be able "to remain open from 3-6 p.m. two days a week, giving children and their parents or other family members a place to read, use computers, and do research." The district will use $200,000 of the grant to purchase new books and equipment. "The evening hours will continue until mid-June of 2010. ... Because the program is grant-funded, there's no guarantee it will be available beyond the current school year."
