I have just been told that "Listen to the Wind" which comes up with the other
versions of Three Cups
of Tea is a picture book version. The other younger readers' edition is more
'chapter book' format
- you can read the first few pages on Amazon.

Also the subtitle of "Stones into Schools" is "Promoting Peace with Books, Not
Bombs, in Afghanistan
and Pakistan" which is what initially attracted my attention.

For Australian teacher librarians, I have found the best price (so far) available
through
www.fishpond.com.au and with the focus on the Afghan refugees coming here as "boat
people" this
series might give our children an insight into what is not only a political hot
potato but is also
becoming a racial issue by the uninformed. Could tie in well with Boy Overboard by
Gleitzman.

I always remember one of my most provocative but successful displays was based on
books like
Parvana, Boy Overboard, A Little Patch of Ground and so forth and all it was, was a
background of
newsprint, the books on a black cloth surrounded by barbed wire! Simple but
v-e-r-y effective.

Another one was a poster of the planet taken from space surrounded by the words
Information,
Knowledge, Understanding, Tolerance, Peace and my students' version of John
Marsden's "Prayer for
the 21st Century" (which he loved when I sent it to him).
