I feel this is unfair practice. How can one ask a student teacher to
weed? I think the librarian should weed with the student. The student
does not know what is important, and what to leave on the shelves.

Sally, you could weed the entire 921 collection if you feel that the
collection is outdated. What will the reaction of the librarian be?

Let the librarian give you some specifics, e.g. all the books older than
2000 or 1995 or 1978....

My opinion.

Subject: GEN: Weeding Guidance

Hello LM_NETters -

As a student media specialst teacher (doing my Practicum) in a Middle
School
Media Center, I have been asked to weed the 921 (Biographies) section of
the
collection that is approximately 40 years old (a rough estimate).
Thus far, I have not had the real world experience of weeding any
collection.
What would be some pertinent pointers, important evaluative measures or
thoughts to consider before I begin weeding?
Any input and guidance would greatly be appreciated!

Thank you for supportive suggestions and guidance.
