If you're looking for a resource that provides girls with lists of
books that feature females as positive role models, this might be the
database---- and it's free!

The Girls Voices Literature Database from Miami University was created
to connect readers with high quality children's and young adult
literature, fiction and nonfiction, that portrays female characters as
strong, intelligent individuals who make positive choices for living
emotionally healthy lives. The idea for this database developed as a
result of discussions among educators, students and community members
who recognized a need for a "one-stop" shop for finding literature
that featured girls in positive roles and situations. We believe there
is a need for persons of either gender to read about females who are
adventuresome, have ambitious goals, overcome obstacles, and who
demonstrate their intelligence in a variety of settings and
situations. Characters may achieve goals through creativity,
innovation, hard work, and/or persistence. They have a positive
outlook about who they are and what they can be. Whether fictional or
real, the characters offer a variety of personalities and lifestyles
that help present options to readers.

The goal is to get girls reading and talking about literary and
true-life females who are interesting, emotionally healthy, and who
make the best of who they are. Let the books be read… let the voices
be heard!
