I can top Linda on age!!

Here comes a controversial statement ----- get ready for it

I have been attending ALA conventions twice a year since 1963. I have been on way
too many committees - from Best Books to Outstanding Books to Margaret Edwards to
PPYA.

In all those years I have NEVER ever attended an awards ceremony - even for the
lists of which I was on. Why you ask?

Cause - I never really cared (and still don't) who won what -- never really
affected me - it is only the opinion of someone (maybe mine) or someone's --

And lately, I agree with many that have stated that so many awards aren't really
the titles students want to read.

PS - this is my first year I haven't attended ALA -- I decided my committee days
are over and I am on to other things.

Told you, my statement was controversial and to some maybe even heretical.

I have to grin a bit. It wasn't so long ago that we had to rely on a
coworker who actually *went* to the conference to call us and let us know
who the winners were. We then faxed the information to others who did not
have representation at the conference. How times change! (Of course that
was when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I'm showing my age)
