There is no rhyme or reason to the list yet (my apologies). I wanted to get the list out before weeks went by. Thanks again for all of your wisdom! On the museum of hoaxes the first test does not come up sometimes, but test 2 always comes up. Check this site out first some of the images may not pass you're AUP. At my last school I cut and pasted some of the pics into a power point and showed them to the whole class and had the class vote rather than let them take the test. All about explorers is great because it is information that most of the students are familiar with. Christopher Columbus is so outrageous that students always know it is a hoax but some of the others are pretty convincing. I sometimes have them look up the explorer in the world book online and then read the hoax site. I use the ACLU site as an example of bias and as a warning that data mining is a real danger. But we talk about how they have exagerated and work on peoples fears with this site. Kids love it. I've also used Dog Island as an example of a bogus website. www.thedogisland.com/index.html<outbind://1/www.thedogisland.com/index.html> I've used our own school website as an example of a valid one and asked questions based on that information. On my library skills blog I have a lesson on website evaluation and there are several sites on it, both good and bad. You can find it at: http://csslibraryskills.blogspot.com/ Scroll down until you find the post entitled, "When in doubt, doubt! http://www.wiredsafety.org/wiredlearning/Evaluation/index.html and http://www.southfayette.org/schools/ms/library/webquest/index.htm My email address is changing to michelle.cowell@wsr.k12.ia.us<mailto:michelle.cowell@wsr.k12.ia.us> -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
