The Duck Who Played the Kazoo by Amy E. Sklansky, illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke. Clarion, 2008. 978-0-618-42854-0 As a story of music and friendship or as a support for curriculum units on migration in primary grades, Sklansky's picture book is a gem of poetic language and repetition. Combined with Beeke's appealing trademark watercolor and mixed media illustrations in soft and magical colors, Duck's story of loneliness and friendship found through courage and ingenuity shimmers with hope and good cheer. Hand out kazoos to double the participation and fun. Suggested ages: 4-7.
