Some picture book texts slide off the tongue like silk when read 
aloud.  Some picture book illustrations take you far away to a place 
you know all too well because it's the land of childhood 
dreams-come-true, the land of old fashioned meant-to-be and 
how-could-it-happen-any-other-way?  The Dog Who Belonged to No One is 
just that sort of book, meant to be read aloud, meant to be hugged 
tightly as a brand-new friend who finally comes run-run-running or 
pedal-pedal-pedaling into your life, just as the dog who belonged to 
no one and a wisp of a girl named Lia finally came together in the 
way they were always meant to, on the porch of a crooked house that 
smelled wonderful, like bread in the oven . . . and cake, and with a 
soft night light shining. This is a nostalgic story of destiny, 
illustrated in pencil and watercolor for a soft aged feeling that 
will put you in exactly the right mood.  Suggested ages: 4-8.
