I was asked by several people to post the information that I got on Book Systems.

********************

I had Book Systems at my old school. I used it for 6 years and never really had any
problems with it. The customer service is ok but you have to call them, they assign
you a number, and then someone calls you back so it can take awhile to get answers.
The only real complaint I had was that since no one else around me used it, I had
to call customer service for even the tiniest problems because I couldn't just call
another school and say "how do you do this?" Otherwise, it worked fine. Hope that
helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

We have used the Concourse version at our church for some years. The program is
very user friendly and the service is good.

If you're asking about Concourse, the system itself works well for me. However,
getting customer service has not been easy. It took me 4 calls/emails to find out
how to order barcode labels and the cost. I don't like the "local sales person"
model that they have.

I have had Concourse from Booksystems ever since it came out as a Windows-based
program in the late 1990's. It works very well for me, and I can recommend it
highly. The company is great to work with and their tech support is great if you
ever need it.

I haven't had the funding to upgrade to their web-based Atriuum program, but would
expect the same high standards of performance to apply.

If you have specific questions, please write back and I will try to answer them.

We have used Atriuum since August and have found it to fulfill our needs. We
looked at Follett but did not want to pay the high yearly fees associated with
their product. As with any change, we had some problems at the beginning. Some of
them were problems with our data, some were Atriuum problems. However, the people
from Atriuum are nice to work with. When you have a problem or question, you call
their number and get an incident number. They usually return your call within a
day. All of the updates, and a lot of the problems are handled by Book Systems.
When you get your data transfered, the system will combine all titles with the
same ISBN. This is only a problem if you used multiple records and entered
subject headings. Only the last set of heading will appear in your catalog. Also,
circulation history and patron information is not transfered by Book Systems. You
must do this yourself. We had a rough start with the program. If we had more time
over the summer, we probably would not have had that rough of a time. We had
basically a week before school started to use the program. This was not enough
tiem. Now, however, we like it. It can do some neat things. It does some things we
will never use. You can set it up to work from home. You may have students access
it from home if you want. It can show students what they have out and if they have
a fine. If you have any other questions, please contact me. Bob Bentz, Conrad
Weiser High School Librarian.

We have this system at our school. We opened a new building in the fall of 2002.
We have grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. The system has operated well
for us. Our tech person said if she calls and leaves a message, they usually call
her back within an hour or two or that same day. They have updates to the system,
but we have not had to change to a whole new system. The only problem for us has
been that no one in the area has Book Systems but us. In some cases we could have
answered a question just by calling another school librarian. Our former
Middle/High School Librarian was very skilled in technology and did all the
cataloging, spine labels, bar codes, Accelerated Reader labels, Access Pa Adds and
Deletes. She has moved to another school this year, so the rest of us are trying
to learn the system now. I hope I have answered your question. Marilyn Wesdock,
Elementary Librarian, DuBois Area Catholic School, DuBois,PA 15801

I have been using Book Systems for the last two years. It is wonderful! I have
looked at all of the other systems and felt that this really fit our needs. Our
whole school system is using it (4 elem., M.S. & H.S.). The best part is the
cataloging. All of our elementary schools did their own retrospective conversion.
I have had absolutely no problems with the technical support. They made sure
everything worked for us. The Boyd's are wonderful people to work with. I know
them both very well. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I use this at our church library. It is a simple system but has capabilities
beyond our needs. I have found tech support to be very good.
