As a member of the 2009 Arbuthnot Lecture Planning Committee, I would like
to announce to LM_NET subscribers that the 2009 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor
Lecture will be held in Clinton, Tennessee on Saturday, April 18, 2009.

Walter Dean Myers will deliver the lecture, hosted by the Langston Hughes
Library of the Children's Defense Fund Haley Farm.

Attendance to the lecture is free; however, tickets must be reserved online
in advance at
http://arbuthnotlecture2009.eventbrite.com<https://tmail.ortn.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://arbuthnotlecture2009.eventbrite.com>.
Tickets will be available from this link beginning February 15. Once you
register, a packet of information including your ticket, schedule,
accommodations and parking information will be mailed to you.

Please view this official press release for further details on the event:
http://www.ala.org/ala/newspresscenter/news/pressreleases2008/July2008/ALSCarbuthnot.cfm.

If you live or work in the vicinity of East Tennessee, we strongly encourage
you to attend! For those who will be unable to attend, online video of the
Lecture will be made available AFTER it the lecture finished. Unfortunately,
streaming video will not be available live online. The University of
Tennessee's School of Information Sciences will be providing the public with
this free service and will keep it available online for years to come. For
information on how to access the video, please keep your eye on the News
page of the University of Tennessee's School of Information Sciences:
http://www.sis.utk.edu/newsArchive.

Christopher Myers, son of Walter Dean Myers and award-winning author and
illustrator of children's books, will also be speaking on the University of
Tennessee's (Knoxville) campus Friday, April 17, 2009. (I believe this will
be an evening event.)

If you are a school librarian and have students interested in volunteering
for the event (or if you would like to volunteer yourself), please contact
me directly via e-mail. Duties for volunteers include helping with parking
services, unpacking books for Mr. Myers to sign, ushering and so forth.
Students may use the opportunity to fulfill a service credit for school
while also being able to attend the lecture.

Haley Farm is truly a beautiful site for this lecture to take place. To
learn more about the Farm, please visit:

Thank you.
