Hello, Our 7th graders each do an end of the year project that addresses a problem in the world. The students find an issue they are interested in, research the problem, and think of local and global ways to address the problem. Typical topics include hunger, homelessness, poverty, poor education, lack of access to water, animal abuse, global warming, etc. The teachers are looking for a book for the kids to read as an introduction to this service learning project. Any ideas? Hiassen's books have been around long enough that the kids have read them, but that that's the style of book we're looking for - something with young people trying to make a difference.
