We use a few different types of navigation signage. At the end of the shelves we 
put the dewey range and subjects that would be found in that row. 500's animals, 
sharks, fish, etc.

I have also made signs from heavy laminated stock that stick out from the shelves 
that signal popular topics with a stock picture for a quick reference
Drawing, Dinosuars, trucks, pets, maps, etc
