To Joy, Have tried to send twice to your email address without success, so will post to listserv. Regarding a single choice for a professional magazine, my personal preference is LMC (Library Media Connection). It has more in the way of lessons & other practical applications than SLJ & also has quite a number of book reviews. There is also School Librarian's Workshop which has some really great lessons for Primary all the way through HS. It's only published about 6 times a year and is more like a large brochure than a journal, but I really like all the stuff offered. It's written by a couple Library Professors. I find SLJ's articles not as helpful for a school situation--very few worthwhile lessons-- and its value as a book review journal is not as critical when many book reviews can be accessed on all the major book vendors' websites, even Amazon.com. SLJ has value as a journal of the profession, but considering the horrific price they charge for it, I'd rather have the lessons provided by LMC or SLW.
