[LM_NET] Looking for a book

Hello,

I'm looking for the title of a book written before 1970ish.  In it a 
boy builds a robot and then a wife robot and a kid robot.  There is a 
flood, and the robots help bail water.   I think the robots are made 
out of buckets.
