[LM_NET] Share: Where is the first picture book museum?

I was sent a message by someone from Ohio who said that the first
picture book art museum was actually the Mazza Museum established on the
campus of the University of Findlay located in Findlay, Ohio.  The Mazza
Museum goes back to 1982 and Eric Carle's was opened to the public in
2002.  The websites of both museums claim to be the first:

children's picture books.

"Together with his wife Barbara, Eric Carle, the renowned author and
illustrator of more than 70 books, including the 1969 classic The Very
Hungry Caterpillar, founded The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art as
the first full-scale museum in this country devoted to national and
international picture book art, conceived and built with the aim of
celebrating the art we know first."


 


Maybe we need to have more definition of the phrase "first full-scale
museum".
