Great Brain,
I had a library clerk call me today with this question: She has three copies
of a book. One copy is older, and cost $4.99 years ago when purchased. The
other two copies are newer, and cost $17.00 when recently purchased. A
student lost the older book. Can she charge him what it would cost to
replace the book (which she knows is $17.00), or can she only charge him
what the book originally cost? The principal wondered if it was legal to
charge him the higher replacement cost. Anyone want to help with this one?
Please reply off list-I don't want to start a big debate! I'll post a hit.
