Hi everyone, I thought I'd share our blog for the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award we have in Vermont. For the past two years we've had a blog where kids can comment on the books they read as part of the state-wide book award program. I have found allowing them to post comments to the blog once they've finished a book was a great incentive to read as many of the titles as they can. It is also a simple & safe way to teach 2.0 skills. All posts are moderated for appropriate language and comments should be anonymous. I encouraged my own students to make their posts meaningful & engage in respectful dialog with other commenters. I also tell them to use the same pseudonym for all their posts so they can develop an online voice. We received 1,500 comments this year! (Of course, these are not all from my students, these are from students all over Vermont). http://dcfbooks.edublogs.org/ Pamela Burke Librarian, Marlboro School Marlboro, VT 05344 http://marlboroschool.net pam@marlboroschool.net SurRural Librarian http://lib.surruralist.net/ Meet me at the Vermont Library Conference May 12 & 13! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
