My school district, with 45 elementary schools and 4 high schools, is about to undertake a review of our central Media Resource Centre. The Resource Centre offers, among other things, centralized access to higher cost items such as DVD's, kits, and online databases, etc. It also supports our union catalogue, provides most of the cataloguing for the various schools, and coordinates professional development for school library staff (we have a mix of professional and paraprofessional staff in the schools). In addition to the "library" type services, the Resource Centre operates a "Teacher Centre" with access to laminating machines, etc. I am not sure what term(s) you might use to cover this concept, but I am referring to a central library media collection and services. As part of the review, staff have been asked to identify the elements of a "model school district media resource center", and name the roles/services that would be provided. I have searched the archives and haven't found a great deal of recent information (other than people bemoaning upcoming cuts to their central library services!). If your district has a central library which has undergone a review, could you please contact me? I am particularly interested in: a) school districts which have done reviews of their central library media services, and the recommendations which were made b) names of journal articles which might be useful in defining a model central library media center c) any opinions on what's required of a model central library media services Thanks very much. I will post a HIT.
