Hello everyone! After 8 years of teaching middle school language arts, I will be moving to the media specialist position in the fall. I'll be primarily stationed at the middle school (teaching weekly library lessons, managing the collection, etc.), but I'll also be supervising the elementary media aides because our district doesn't employ a media specialist for the elementary level. I have been "lurking" on LM-NET for a week or so, and I've been browsing the archives as well. This is a wonderful community, and I'm excited to be joining you! Here's my question for you: If you were just starting out as a school media specialist/librarian, what would your first priorities be? What should I try to accomplish before students come back in August? Is there anything you wish you had known when you were starting out? Thanks for any advice you can pass along!
