I got some great responses. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I think I will probably let the students decide on their own club name, but now I have some great suggestions to give them. Original post: I'm writing a grant to start a graphic novel club at my school next year; I'm hoping to be able to encourage reluctant readers who enjoy graphic novels and also build my graphic novel collection (currently pitifully small; I can't keep the ones I have on the shelves). What I need is a name for the club; hopefully one that conveys that we are planning to include comic books and manga as well as more ...hmm...weighty? graphic novels. I'm just drawing a blank today; a more than usually hectic couple of weeks and a teething baby at home are leaving me drained. Help, please! Responses: Drawn and quartered? _______________ One of my colleagues calls her club Japanaime _______________ I like Inklings (there's a literary connection there the kids can research), BUT have you considered having the KIDS create the name? Then it's really theirs... _______________ The first thing that came to my mind was this website: http://www.noflyingnotights.com/ I think a play on that would make a cool name and indicate that these books are more than just comic books--something like More than just Tights. I found a syllbus from a class titled More than just Capes and Tights. That's as creative as I can get on a Friday afternoon....best of luck! p.s. my niece really dug baby orajel when she was teething--gave my sister and her husband many more quiet nights! _______________ We have graphic labels that say POW & that's how my kids ask for graphic books - any new POW books? (but I am elementary) _______________ I named ours the Anime book Club and it works out well. _______________ Let me know what you come up with. I have started one as well at my elementary school. I only have a couple of boys, but I am working on it. ______________ We just call ours the Anime Club.
