Our server crashed - and both backups failed as well. The newest viable
data for our district libraries is from September 11. Ironic right?

Our school library system will be able to restore our catalog records
as they were October 23 - so that is not too bad. It is the circulation
records that are a nightmare. The records for all books circulated
since September 11 are now gone.

Do you have ideas how to encourage kids to bring their books back? I'm
in the high school, so we are offering "raffle" tickets for every book
returned with a prize of a mall certificate. Drawing date "to be
determined". We are being very cagey about why we are doing this so
that the students don't realize that we have no idea who has out what
books.

It is our elementary school that will probably suffer the most, since
they have close to twice as many students and they have a HUGE
circulation.

If you have any ideas how to proceed, please let me know. Should we
contact parents? If so - should we tell them that we really don't know
who has what books?

Thanks in advance for any help/condolences/flower arrangements or
chocolate you can provide.

p.s. Lesson learned too late. It would probably be a wise idea to
print out the week's circulation every Friday - just in case.
Suspenders AND a belt look a little funny/frumpy - but it's pretty much
a fool-proof back up system =-)
