I wanted to go ahead and pass on this response from Barbara Braxton, in

"The greatest challenge facing us today is how to organize information
into structured knowledge. We must rise above the obsession with
quantity of information and the speed of transmission. We must focus on
the fact that the key issue for us is our ability to organize the
information once it has been amassed, to assimilate it, to find meaning
in it and to assure its survival. And that cannot be done without
librarians and libraries." ~ Vartan Gregorian

Dear Laura
Your timing is impeccable because starting tomorrow there is an online
conference devoted to this
very topic. It is called Designing the Future and some of the best
brains are presenting. Details
are at yourschoollibrary.org and it is not too late to join because
there will be a new paper
presented each day through to November 13. Each presentation is
followed by four days of optional
moderated discussion on the forum.
