[LM_NET] HIT: Classics for 7th and 8th grade

The Pearl was ninth grade in my old school.

Catcher is in 9th grade here. In 8th they do a lot of Steinbeck (Of Mice and Men, 
Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday) and To Kill A Mockingbird.

Today I was in all the 8th grade LA classes doing my annual Banned Books Week 
lesson (a few weeks late). These kids spoke eloquently FOR Of Mice and Men and 
couldn't imagine it would ever be banned. They were somewhat less eloquent about 
Captain Underpants, but equally appalled that it was on the list!  I don't hear 
much about the other Steinbeck titles, but most of them also love TKAM.

The Pearl is a 9th grade read.  Catcher in the Rye is optional at 11th grade level.
