9th grade science class project. We are leaning towards 32-60 page books that have
great pictures and diagrams showing the different kinds of cells, with short but
detailed information. We do not want textbook type tomes. I have tried Google
books, publisher sites and Amazon to see inside the following books and either
there is no view inside the book available or if it is available the page selection
is not helpful.

The assignment is to learn about the cell, its parts and function, and then send
the cell on an adventure. So, we just need books that show good diagrams of the
different kinds of cells with good labels and descriptions of the cell's function.

My research has found:

Exploring Science: Life Science - Animal Cells: Smallest Units of Life by Darlene
R. Stille
Exploring Science: Life Science - Plant Cells: Building Blocks of Plants by Darlene
R. Stille

Microquests - Mighty Animal Cells by Rebecca L. Johnson
Microquests - Powerful Plant Cells by Rebecca L. Johnson
Microquests - Ultra-organized Cell Systems by Rebecca L. Johnson

Gareth Stevens Vital Science: Life Science - Cells by Darlene R. Stille

Life Science In-Depth - Cells and Cell Function by Sally Morgan

Life Processes - Cells and Life systems by Holly Wallace

Cells & Life - World of the Cell: Life on a Small Scale by Robert Snedden

Library of Cells - Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cell Structures: Understanding Cells
with and without a Nucleus by Lesli J Favor

Human Body: How It works - Cells, Tissues and Skin by Douglas B. Light

Science Essentials: Biology - Cells and Life Processes by Denise Walker

My question to you that have continued reading this far, with the above assignment
in mind, do you recommend any of the above titles, or have some "better" titles in
your collection that would meet our needs?

We do have some websites already gathered for the teachers to share during the
presentation of the project, but generally this is a classroom activity using books
so the students concentrate more on finding the function of the cells and then
creating the adventure.

I look forward to your input.

Jean
