Hello great minds!

I am in need of assistance to create an assessment tool for a possible
resource grant application. My school district must look over all grant
applications and approve them prior to submission. They require that every
grant include an assessment tool to track the use and benefits to any grant
that is used in an academic area.
I am attempting to apply for a resource grant for a school wide license to
e-books from Sylvan Dell Publishing. The e-books would be available for
students to use from classroom computers, library computers, and computers
at home under this license. The district wants a way to track how the use of
these e-books may improve reading skills for students using them.

Right now my brain is totally frozen on what this assessment should be. I do
not want to create an assessment that will create a lot of work for anyone,
especially me! I am new to this district and school. We are a K-5 elementary
school that was reconfigured over the summer from a K-3 school. I am
integrating materials from the collection in a grade 4 5 school that
became K 3 and have been asked to develop a curriculum and procedure
manual. I am responsible for tracking the use of AR in the classrooms and
working with the reading specialist to collect data for AR and plan monthly
rewards and a Hall of Fame assembly at the end of the year, creating an end
of year AR event, teaching 23 sections of library visits with book exchange
(clerk 1 day a week who is retiring in Dec. and is not scheduled to be
replaced along with six parent volunteers coming during five class visits),
17 duties outside the library during the week, and a required mentoring
program that is meeting throughout the year that offers 15 college credits
and requires a portfolio of activities and written work. I have been RIFed
from my two previous positions and really want to make a great impression
here. It was suggested that we use the STAR reading or NWEA (MAP) reading
scores later in the year as documentation for how the e-books improve
reading, but I donąt know how we will know which students use the e-books
outside formal classroom instruction, ESL instruction, or special ed
instruction. I sent an e-mail to Sylvan Dell asking if there is any way to
track use of the e-books by our students. The school is scheduled to have a
web site, (yes, I am to create a library web site but cannot start until
everyone has official training from the district tech department) and we
might be able to track visits to the e-book site but that doesnąt let us
know which students use the e-books. Is there some type of survey that you
can think of that would give us information?

Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated!
