Mr. Hicks,

I find your comments disrespectful and politically motivated. This is a forum to
discuss our roles as Librarians and, in this case, censorship. It is not to call
the President names and accuse him of leading "impressionable children on a crusade
of rushing home and converting and influencing their parents to embrace and
support his agenda or path to that city on the hill!"

Please refrain from discussing politics on this Listserv.

I have read the speech and it is directed towards adults (parents,
educators, voters) or people who run public education, and NOT
students. Consequently, it is quite logical to NOT waste precious
school time on something that has little or no educational or learning
value for the students. Yes, our public educational system is vitally
important, thus, my question is why it wasn't scheduled for evening
"prime" time instead of daytime when the people who make the
educational decisions are working. Perhaps, the reason is political?
Why would the President give a speech to an audience who has no
control or authority to affect the educational system?

Perhaps, President Obama envisions himself as sort of a "Pied Piper"
attempting to lead easily impressionable children on a crusade of
rushing home and converting and influencing their parents to embrace
and support his agenda or path to that city on the hill!
