Thanks for the quick response. I just put them on my order sheet!!! I did have a student request them so I think they will do well in my school. Answers below My middle school students appreciate a multicultural perspective. Yes. We have the whole series in our MS. Yes, I think so, I have them in my middle school library and they are always checked out. They are gritty and realistic, but language is ok and I don't recall any inappropriate parts in the ones I read. I think 7th and 8th graders will do fine with the book. A mature 6th grader will do all right, too. The reading level is about 4th grade, but since the main characters are in high school, the IL is higher. Most 5th and 6th graders will just probably not be interested in the love aspect (which isn't even PG13) or why the parents are separated and the dad is wanting to move back home. I've had success with this book with the African-American males, especially. Girls want to read all 9 books immediately. I am using it for a book club for 9th graders this 9 weeks. I would reserve them for your older students--not sure they are appropriate for 6th graders. Yes...my middle school students love it! It's very clean and they read them over and over. Yes. It is a very clean series that still manages to get messages across.
