Some of these suggestions are great!!! I was already going to teach Ebsco as it is our only subscription data base. Here is where I posted the info that I presented to the kids!!! http://sites.google.com/site/mrsadame/Home/8th-gr-science-fair Original Query Since it's a new year I thought I might pose the age old question again. I am gearing up to teach 8th graders some research strategies in our database, library and internet. (All in one class period ugh--) I usually direct them to clusty... any other great internet search engines you can suggest and WHY? I know that one suggestion is to teach them to properly use google which I may or may not do depending on time. HITS Have you checked out Haika http://www.hakia.com or Ujiko http://www.ujiko.com/ two very cool search engines...and different than others... I usually do Boolean Search techniques with mine - so that they understand the difference between and, or , and not. Not necessarily search engines, but I direct my students to sites like EbscoHost and these sites. http://www.ipl.org/ http://www.ala.org/gwstemplate.cfm?section=greatwebsites&template=cfapps/gws/default.cfm http://www.kidsclick.org/ http://lii.org/ http://www.thinkquest.org/library/ http://www.virtuallrc.com/ Have you used any of Kathy's webwork on this topic? Good question!
