[LM_NET] TAR: Creating Global students

I am interested in creating a list of books and supplying them for our K-6 students 
and teacher.  I would like the list to deal with current events and global issues.  
When I look at different lists of books, I am usually given many historical books 
and although they are great, its just not what I am looking for.  So, if you know 
of any great global or national titles that focus on a current issue or what's 
happening in the world, I would love to hear about it.  I think picture books would 
be easier for everyone to read and share, but I am not apposed to chapters books 
either.

Any ideas?
