I would have a long talk with the teacher and aide about library rules before the students come to the library. I would also say that if they can't behave, they must come in afterschool to use the materials and not during class time. Susan Heinis West Essex High School 65 West greenbrook Road North Caldwell, NJ 07006 973-228-1200 x252 -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Suzanne McRae Sent: Monday, April 26, 2010 1:12 PM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: [LM_NET] TAR: Discipline Advice - unruly group of students Good Afternoon, I just finished teaching the most unruly group of high school students. They came into the library with their teachers (classroom teacher and Special Education teacher) for a research lesson. I was only able to get through 5 minutes of my lesson b/c they would not stop yelling at each other. Then security had to come to break up an almost physical fight. They are coming again tomorrow, but I want to be better prepared. I have worked with difficult kids almost my entire career, but I have never seen it this bad. I was thinking of putting them into smaller groups, and demonstrating the lesson to the smaller group, and have them rotate into different stations. I have never done this before, so I don't know if it will work, but if anyone can give me a good suggestion, I would love to hear it.
