I would have a long talk with the teacher and aide about library rules before the
students come to the library. I would also say that if they can't behave, they
must come in afterschool to use the materials and not during class time.

Subject: [LM_NET] TAR: Discipline Advice - unruly group of students

Good Afternoon,

I just finished teaching the most unruly group of high school students. They came
into the library with their teachers (classroom teacher and Special Education
teacher) for a research lesson. I was only able to get through 5 minutes of my
lesson b/c they would not stop yelling at each other. Then security had to come to
break up an almost physical fight. They are coming again tomorrow, but I want to
be better prepared. I have worked with difficult kids almost my entire career, but
I have never seen it this bad.

I was thinking of putting them into smaller groups, and demonstrating the lesson to
the smaller group, and have them rotate into different stations. I have never done
this before, so I don't know if it will work, but if anyone can give me a good
suggestion, I would love to hear it.

Thanks,
