I should have also said that until this year (2010-2011), we have had to share LCD
projectors and laptops. This year will be the first that everyone has their own
equipment. So things are definitely going to change and I will change with them
(ready to start year 35 in the library media business!) But I will have to admit
that I find it funny that Harry the Dirty Dog on Safari Montage is exactly the same
as on the old filmstrip.

We have few DVDs and lots of VHS. We also have few DVD players or DVD/VHS players,
although we have a license and can distribute to several classrooms at once from
the library media center as necessary. Our Safari Montage has somewhat taken the
place of the VHS, but not totally. I don't have a storage issue, so am just
discarding the VHS as the subject matter becomes dated. We often have wireless
internet issues because we are three towers down from the source (well, not
terribly often anymore, but enough issues that a backup of materials seems in
order.) However, I won't buy anymore VHS format (and most of these are donations or
Scholastic points or whatever due to original budgetary issues.)

In this issue, just in other cases, it depends on your situation.

I just purchased at set of eight VHS videos produced by CNN called Cold War. The
set originally cost more than $500. CNN has no intention of transferring this
series to DVD. It is among the finest historical series ever made.

While popular movies may have been transfered to DVD, some historical and
educational tapes have not and may never be released by the publishers in DVD
format.
