(Excuse the cross post) During the summer I read an on-line article in SLJ entitled ‘Summer Reading’. I got a kick out of the fact I shared common interests with the authors interviewed and so I thought what a great idea if kids could see what their favorite authors are reading and compare notes. I figured if I personally got a kick out of seeing that some of the books I was reading this summer, authors were reading as well, kids might get a kick out of it also. Not only did I have similar book lists but I used the article to add to my summer reading list. I can see kids doing the same thing. I would think they would be curious to look up books that authors mention. I can only imagine how kids would feel to share a common interest with an author they love. I can also envision them bragging to there friends that they and author so-and-so read the same book. I can foresee how this could be a great motivational tool to get them to read more books and perhaps books they may not otherwise consider. So... I replicated that idea on my blog -La Lucha Libro Library- that I write for my elementary students, and I received some great author responses. As we head back to school I would like to invite you all to share your summer reading lists (excluding adult titles) and your comments. Did you read the some of the same books as the authors? Are you inspired to read something you hadn't considered? Do you go back to read classics and childhood favorites? Here is the link if you would like to see it and/or share. You will be in company of some pretty cool authors - http://centeno.edublogs.org/2010/07/01/favorite-authors-summer-reads/ Check out the reading lists for: Betty G. Birney author of the *According to Humphrey* series Jennifer and Matthew Holm authors of the *Babymouse *series Ingrid Law author of *Savvy *and *Scumble* Lisa Graff author of *Umbrella Summer* ....and other nifty authors. I hope you all will consider leaving your comments. And I definitely plan to do this every year and make it a staple. Please feel free to share the link with your students. I would love to have their comments as well. -- Analine Johnson Library Media Specialist Rodolfo C.
