I have a middle school colleague who is struggling with a group of students. The
students themselves readily admit that, when they read, they just don't "get it."
Their fluency isn't great, but it is passable. However, when it comes to
explaining that they understand what they have read, they just can't do it. It is
frustrating for all concerned.

I have suggested that she use STRATEGIES THAT WORK, by Harvey and Goudvis, and 7
KEYS TO COMPREHENSION, by Zimmerman and Hutchins. Do you have any other
professional books, lesson books or perhaps websites that have proven successful
when used in your schools?

I'd appreciate a reply off the list and I will share it with my friend.

In advance, thank you.
