The post from the person who liked Rules better than Higher Power of Lucky made me
think what happens in my library. The kids know which books are "good", at least
for them. Rules, the honor book, was on the state reading list (chosen by
students), and I can't keep it on my shelf even this year. Higher Power of Lucky
is somewhere in my general collection gathering dust, as so many others are. When
I tell kids about the Newbery and Caldecott books, I always treat the honor books
the same as the winners. Often they are much more popular than the actual winner.
