LM_NET Archive

I might embarrass Sybil with this message, but I wanted to recognize her because
she has been on the cutting edge for SO long! She was part of the original
KidsConnect K-12 question/answer team (along with several hundred LM_NET veterans)
which ran from 1995-1998, and then she did K-12 digital reference for the former
Virtual Reference Desk (VRD) project from 1999-2005 (also with many LM_NET
veterans). These two services were WAY out in front of the curve for digital
reference in the K-12 setting, and Sybil has been there all along the way. When she
started working with the original LII, I was thrilled to have her keep me in the
loop with cool new sites, and I really appreciate her keeping us updated in LM_NET.

I think it is important to recognize that school librarians were out in the virtual
reference playground before almost any academic or public library was, 15 years
ago.

IPL (also started in 1995) and LII are both outstanding projects and I'm glad they
have a home.

Thanks for this update, Karen.
I did some work for LII early on and I know our Sybil Feinmel has provided
us links for years which I believe she also adds to LII. I'm sorry to see it
go away (It was started here in California by the KnowledgePeople project)
but I'm glad to see it's been adopted by the very well-respected IPL and
Drexell U.
I had a link to LII (as well as to IPL) on my home page which I just
deleted. ;<(
Thanks again.

All California students need strong school libraries.

Information doesn't deserve to be free. It is an abstract tool; a useful
fantasy, a nothing. It is nonexistent until and unless a person experiences
it in a useful way. --Jaron Lanier
