I was asked to post a hit on this topic. Here is what I received. A big thanks to those of you who responded! Try the series Opposing Viewpoints - lots of different subjects A friend of ours does a research paper using film/books/articles. The students watches a movie based upon a real event/person. They also must read book(s) and magazine/newspaper articles about the event or person. They then compare real life with the Hollywood version. Why not have the students use a history topic from the late 20th century and compare what the historians say with an oral history interview. There are a great number of new histories being written from depression times to current wars. They could also read about an event in foreign policy i.e. the history of the Spanish American war and interview someone who grew up in Cuba to see the differences in the interpretation of events. They could do this with literature also such as comparing the written history of the twenties with Great Gatsby. There is a great PBS series Foyle's War which was on mystery. It is about a police detective who investigates crimes during WWII but is gives a great picture of what life was really like during the war. Hope this might spur some other ideas. vcb Vicki Builta Anderson High School Librarian Association for Indiana Media Educators 2010 President Library of Congress Ambassador 4610 S.
