I wrote asking for advice after finding out my knee pain was arthritis. Many
thanks to everyone who kindly responded with excellent advice and encouragement.

The PT on my knees is kicking in now, and I can see significant improvement.

The most frequent recommendations I received were as follows:

* Most said that when I start walking again, it is best to walk slowly to warm up,
then do stretching exercises, and then continue my walk at a faster pace. Many
suggested finishing up with stretching exercises.

* Many had great things to say about water aerobics, Curves and Yoga. Of the three,
only Yoga is close enough to my home to work out for me. Stiill, great suggestions.

* Some suggested portable pedal exercisers. I have ordered one. I have no room
for a stationary bike and am highly unlikely to go to a gym after my rehab is done
- so this is a good solution for me.

* Another person suggested that this dvd - Strong Knees - would be very helpful, so
I have ordered it:

Everyone kindly shared their experiences and encouragement. It has been SO helpful
to me, as I was feeling quite dismal about the whole thing. I DO see improvement
now, so will keep working on building up the knees so I can keep walking. I have
also decided that bumping up to 5 miles a day as I did during summer break was not
a good idea. When I get started again - I plan to build myself up to 4 miles a day
and then level off. I think it was that extra push that did me in.

I feel like being part of this group means always getting a "group hug" along with
the excellent, practical help. Thank you all!!
