After 22 years, being an ardent embracer of technology, leader of
technology in the district, even technology coordinator for a number of
years, I was just cut from 100% to 20%. Yes, there will be just a 20%
library media specialist for the entire district of ~450 students pk-12,
2 media centers. 1 full time aide. No library classes for elementary.
According to the principal/administrator (with no experience) teachers
will have to check books in and out to students. So much for a library,
for all the work I've put in for the students, for getting students
actively reading and learning. Yes, I did the newsletter articles, did
presentations to the board, wrote letters to parents each quarter. When
it comes down to $$ and school board politics it doesn't matter. They
do it because they can. That is my reality---and not a very pretty one.
