When one of our first grade classes came to the library this morning for their
regularly scheduled visit, I announced that in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday and
Read Across America month we would play a game instead of story time (there was not
enough time for both). So many of the kids were disappointed that I would not be
reading a story today--"We love it when you read stories to us!"--that I scrapped
the game and grabbed And To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. Even though I
like to read through a book first, and I haven't read this one in a long time, it
went over quite well with even the students who told me they didn't want me to read
this book. A teacher later told me that's the highest form of praise I could
receive--forgoing a game and a chance to win a prize to be able to hear a story! :-D
