Hello,

We currently teach multicultural literature at Bay Port high school in Green Bay,
WI, and are looking to do an exchange through skype, video conference, and
eventually in person with a school that is rich in diversity. Our goals for the
exchange of ideas include:

 * Students will meet each other and share their perspectives on literature and
life based on their different experiences and interpretations.
 * Students will realize that valuing diversity and dealing with different people
is an essential skill for school and work.
 * Students will learn that diversity means differences-these differences may
stem from ethnicity, age, economic background, region, etc.
 * Students will revisit the meaning of ethnocentrism, a term discussed earlier
in the year that people naturally gravitate toward similar people. We will openly
discuss why this happens.
 * Students should continue to recognize that cultural stereotypes and biases can
distort judgment. They will hopefully be able to identify with each other on more
levels than originally anticipated.
 * Students will gain a better understanding of each other, and work to formulate
some kind of extended relationship, whether it be through written communication or
skyping.
We would like to know more about your students and school demographics. If you are
interested in collaboration, please respond with your information:

 1. School Name:
 2. Principal Contact:
 3. Courses you teach:
 4. Approximate Student Demographic:

Hi Keith,

Could you send me the website that shows requests from teachers interested in a
video conference or skype? Also, could you post this:

Advanced Sophomore students interested in exchanging ideas and conversation via
skype, ning, or video conference on various novels and readings including, A Tale
of Two Cities (Dickens), Edgar Allan Poe, Kindred (Butler), and Ethan Frome
(Wharton). Our essential question for the year is, How and why does literature
examine conflicts between the individual versus society (responsibilities, desires,
beliefs, culture, religion, law, etc.)? Please contact Vicki Quinn at
vickquin@hssd.k12.wi.us<mailto:vickquin@hssd.k12.wi.us>.

Thanks!
vicki
