[LM_NET] ELEM: NEW BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT and fun picture book activity

Hello Friends,

I am happy to announce that my newest picture book has just been published.
It's entitled NO T. REX IN THE LIBRARY and is illustrated by Sachiko
Yoshikawa, the same fabulous illustrator you may know from my Mrs. Skorupski
series.  This new book is published by McElderry.

When Tess has a meltdown in the public library, her mom assigns her to the
time-out chair.  But time-out turns into a glorious adventure when Tess
manages to pull T. Rex from a book and into full and glorious color.  Roar!!
Will she be able to get him back under control and into his own time-out?

As usual, I've written a Reader's Theater script for the book and a
curriculum guide.  You can find both at ttp://

I'm running a writing contest for kids and the rules are there too!

The good news is that the first printing sold out immediately (though your
book jobber may have some copies in stock, as Amazon seems to) and the
second printing will be back in stock the first of April.

Meanwhile, in answer to Nancy Dickenson's request for physical activities to
accompany picture books and keep kids engaged, here's one to accompany NO T.
REX IN THE LIBRARY:

Before reading the book, mark five tables as follows with signs.  Also
display dino, castle, pirate, cowboy, and space books at the appropriate
locations.

TIME OUT CHAIR

DINOSAUR BOOKS (on a cart would be perfect)

CASTLE BOOKS

PIRATE BOOKS/STORY PIT

WILD WEST DISPLAY

SOLAR SYSTEM BOOKS

Read the book through once, just to familiarize students with the story.
Then, enact the story as you move around the room.  At each location there
are lines to call out, so kids can be actively involved in the text too.
Prepare to ROAR! and YeeHaw!
