On the 6th of May, 1937 - while attempting to land in New Jersey - the Hindenburg
suddenly exploded. Although it was completely destroyed by fire in less than a
minute, many passengers survived.
On the 7th of May, 1915, a German torpedo struck the Lusitania. The ship quickly
sank, with great loss of life. That event ultimately played a role in America
joining WWI.
A new mini-series about World War II - "The Pacific" - features three lead
characters and various battle scenes. The National Archives, Library of Congress
and Department of Defense have historical footage and other resources about the
actual people and the battles they fought.
