We have about 10 or 12 large boxes filled with math manipulatives for elementary students that contain such things as counting bears, base ten blocks, geometrical shapes, toy clock-faces, geoboards, etc. Unfortunately, because these are in large containers and are actually meant for use by a classroom teacher, many of these items are not checked out or used by our education majors. I would like to break the kits apart and create individual "Math Tutoring Kits" that would contain manipulatives that could be used by our pre-service teachers who are also math tutors during the fall and spring semesters. But in order to do this in a somewhat logical manner, I was hoping that I might find some type of list of manipulatives that might be used by students at different levels (grades K-6). I've checked online to find some type of resource list for grade levels but I haven't found much. I do locate vendors that provide "kits" but generally they begin listing the items and then add...."and much more!" This doesn't help me. Does anyone know of a resource (even an elementary math teacher at your school) that might provide me with the types of manipulatives that could be added to a math tutoring kit for a teacher and one or two students to use one-on-one? I'm developing the mini-kits for grades K-6 and I have just about everything you can imagine.... but in bulk! I need to make this more user-friendly! If you have any ideas, suggestions, or have resource links or perhaps an elementary math teacher who might have the time to jot down what would be great to have in a kit for a specific level, I'd appreciate it! Once I have the kits created, I can post the content lists for others who are interested (and I'm going to take photos of the kits to link to the CML's website to promote these to the Math Tutoring department for the fall). Thanks for any help or suggestions that you can offer!! ~Shonda -- Shonda Brisco Assistant Professor / Curriculum Materials Librarian Mary L.
