Anything is possible, but, speaking from my experience as the one and only (I do
not have an assistant), it is not enough time to assist every child and check out
books. I cringe when I am "stuck" at the circulation desk and hear a teacher say,
"Who wants an Arthur/Clifford/Amelia Bedelia book?" Not that these aren't good
titles, but we have so many more delightful books for the children to choose from!
To publicize these, I often have a "Zoo Week" or "New Book Day" at the library,
with a display of the featured books. I try to leave time for borrowing at the end
(which works for most classes, except one where the teacher is often late enough
that once there was no time for checkout!), because the kids are sometimes so
interested in their new books they pay less attention to the lesson, story, etc.

"Books have three of the deadliest foes
on this Earth:
fire,
water, and ignorant men...
...books are the finest treasures of all.
You
need only feast once with your eyes
and your heart.
And you'll be
 full with their wisdom
forever." (Melanie Little, The Apprentice's
Masterpiece)
