I am a fence-sitter, but it's just that I agree with everything (almost) that most
netters have said about literacy and check-out. However, I feel responsibility to
the tax-payers--community and parents--to make strong efforts to get back items
(their investment).

If a library gets $10,000.00 in books per year and loses $2,000.00--pretty soon
you'll be out of business. Any small business would not recover.

We promote the local branch of the public library--they offer great teen
programs--my school is grades 6-8. If the kids want books, they have to make the
effort to go there. I think Betci's book swap idea is a great and workable solution.

It's late to think about it this year--we're out in one week, but for next year--I
may do the swap.

It's important to realize that we are all in the same business, but our situations
are sometimes REALLY different.
