Due to a fairly recent development of a disability I need to look for ways to make my facility easier on me (and any other patrons with physical disabilities. Specifically I need things to look for when someone has impaired mobility on one side but is not in a wheel chair or a walker. I honestly has not fully thought about it but recently noticed a floor outlet that could be a tripping hazard. All of my stools (wheel retract) are dangerous for me because they have no handles. I searched the archives and found one posted in 1997 that mostly talks about attitude. Subject: HIT: Coping Strategies for Media Specialist with Disability Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 01:10:50 -0400 I seem to remember a posting about using a gardening stool with space underneath for shelving/weeding but could not find it. Anyway, what ideas might some of you have about making your library easier to use if you have limited mobility.
