I received this email from a parent of a 2nd grade boy with a middle school reading ability. Her concern is that she doesn't want him reading things that are too mature or scary but doesn't want him to get bored with books that are too easy either. Here is her email, any advice? Thanks in advance! Katie I’ve been looking at books for Michael to read this summer, and I’m starting to think about the Harry Potter series. I’ve read them all and love the series, and I think he could do well with the first few books. The thing that’s holding me back is that I think the last books in the series – probably 5-7 – are too dark and intense for him, and he’s never really been presented with a series of books where he couldn’t read all of them. I’m wondering if this is a problem you’ve dealt with before with some of your older students. How do other families handle this? Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. -- Katie Monroe Media Specialist Ellis Elementary School 250 Illini Drive Belleville, IL 62223 618-397-5512 618-397-4348 (f) www.harmony175.org katiemonroe@charter.net -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
