Hi Folks--

In her post this a.m., Susan Voracek at the American International School
of Buenos Aires (Wow! Buenos Aires! Cool!) says, "I want to update my summer
reading list. Where should I go for this information?"

Woohoo! I've got just the ticket! Go to the fantastic James Patterson site
I write for, www.ReadKiddoRead.com, scroll down the home page, and click on
ULTIMATE SUMMER READING. Voila--you will find my 2 brand new, free,
annotated, gargantuan Summer Reading Lists, one for grades PreK-4, the other,
Grades
5-8. They're pretty darn spiffy, each with 100+ titles. You can read them
online or download the PDFs and print out a master to use to print it out for
your whole school, if you're so inclined. I've included mostly titles from
2008-2009, so it's very current, and is broken into sections for picture
books (for the younger list), fiction, and nonfiction.

Also new on ReadKiddoRead is my list of 68 Spectacular Author and
Illustrator Websites, which you can also use online (each name is a link to the
author's site), or print as a PDF, where the list includes the author's name and
the URL. You can find that list on the homepage as well, under ONLINE FUN
FOR KIDS: The Best Author and Illustrator Sites on the Web.

To find these lists and way more, click on COMMUNITY at the top of the Home
Page, and you'll find all of my lists, articles, interviews with authors,
and lots of discussion groups/individual blogs/links to lesson plans. Join as
a member (free), sure, but also tell your parents and teachers about the
site--put a link on your own library website so parents and kids can continue
to find great reads all summer long.

When you click on COMMUNITY, you'll see, on the top bar, a button called
INVITE. (I just discovered this last week--I'm a little slow.) Click on it and
you can go through your address book and click on any
friends/colleagues/relatives you think will enjoy the site. (I just sent it to all
my peeps, many
of whom had never looked at the site even though they know I write for it.
Many of them signed up & then wrote to me, saying, "WOW! I didn't know this
would be so huge!" Uh, duh. . . )

When you invite folks, they'll get an e-mail with a link to ReadKiddoRead.
So simple, no hassle. I really want to spread the word on this extraordinary
site so that it will continue to be supported. James Patterson, whose book,
Max (Maximum Ride #5), just won this year's Reader's Choice Award, is
passionate about getting kids reading, and this site is his baby. (His own son
was a reluctant reader until he got him going.) I want to help keep it current
and cutting edge, but we can't do it without your support. So please join
the site (no fee, no annoying ads, no obligation to do a blessed thing but
enjoy the freebies) and find a couple hundred great books that'll ring your
bell. And then please tell lots of folks (including kids) about it so we can
continue to grow. Write a nice comment your blog (you can have your own blog
page on the site), join or start a discussion, and let me know if there are
any new kick-butt titles you'd love to see reviewed.

Among the new reviews going up this week: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan
(Ancient Egyptian gods vs. two kids--a nonstop dangerfest), Shark Vs. Train
by Chris Barton (two toys competing to see who's the best; my Buddy Book of
the Year), and Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce (Wimpy Kid-like graphic novel, but
hilarious in its own way--buy lotsa copies).

We add about 15 reviews a month to the regular book review part of the
site--there are almost 400 books listed there right now, most selected by me, as
fabulous, unforgettable books kids (and you) won't be able to put down,
that will help make them readers for life. Not a bad way to spend the day!

Enjoy.

Judy
