Totally agree Maurine! My teachers are more engaged as well as the students. I
design my lessons around not only the standards, etc, but also including components
that will teach my teachers something, usually technically based. What better way
than to use all of our learning modalities while learning? Visual, Oral, Tactual,
Kinesthetic are all used with most lessons on my interactive board with almost
every lesson. These are not just glorified PowerPoint lessons, but "interactive"!
My kids make sure they are paying attention so that they don't miss a beat when it
is their turn, and they in turn become the teacher if you design the lesson well. I
LOVE MY SMART BOARD, sorry David!

My set up isn't the best, small area, everyone crowded in, cords everywhere, but we
make it work. They still pay attention when I am teaching away from the board, or
not using it at all that week, but when it is on, even easy stuff becomes more
challenging as the student must preform in front of the group, so nerves kick in,
tension rises, we get to see them at their most vulnerable. Perfect chance to teach
tolerance!

Keep the discussion coming!

knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author
that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone
whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though."

Having used an interactive white board in the library for library
curricula, helping to integrate this tool into teacher lessons, and
integrating time to students to learn the tool organically, has lead
to meaningful, interactive learning outcomes and assessment. The tool
is only as good as the designed lessons, and I feel the interactive
white board is a powerful tool to support all learning styles.
